The characters in Alexander McCall Smith's popular detective books absolutely come to life in this HBO TV series, as does the country of Botswana. Singer/poet Jill Scott is the perfect combination of sweetness and strength that is Precious Romotswe, the number one lady detective. Her prim and proper secretary/assistant detective is played wonderfully by Anika Noni Rose. Anthony Minghella, the Academy Award winning director of The English Patient and The Talented Mr. Ripley, has done a beautiful job on this, his final project. The gorgeous cinematography make the people and country of Botswana shine. As an added bonus there is the author's film diary that explains how each story was written, information on the country of Botswana, as well as footage of the making of the No. 1 Detective Agency. This is positively the best made series of films (for the big screen quality is unmistakable) I have ever seen that was also adapted from stories I have loved to read.

We enjoyed the dvd season 1 immensely. There are some people in the dvd that aren't in the books but it only improved the story for watching it and inserted humour where it was needed. We are hoping there is a season 2 available. We didn't see any of the episodes on HBO.

In particular, look for the unbelievable portral by Anika Noni Rose - In every scene from first scene to final, be it comic or dramatic or tragic, she plays the character exactly the same way and it works in every single one. I came late to the series as I do not watch this type of program on T.V. It has a tendency to pass time and never get anywhere.
Once you realize there is just a more recent "Days of Our Lives" and quit looking for a cohesive story, you can enjoy each unique episode. Just understand the there are no great insights just fun watching how they put it together. We have to create a psychological situation an antagonist and let the main character solve the situation all in 42 minutes.
Looks closely and periodically there is product name recognition like "Cisco Systems." On season two they did the one thing that really irks me; Episode 12 and 13 have a "To be Continued".

I'm fairly new to workout videos, aside from yoga DVDs, but quite familiar with various modalities of exercise; my level is intermediate/advanced. This workout is excellent. It's just the right length at one hour. I prefer workouts created at a 60 minute length with an option to reduce the time commitment (as is the case with this workout), as opposed to 2 x 30 minutes workouts. If you are short on time and want to isolate certain circuits in this workout, you can. It is a total body workout and can be done everyday.
The reviewer who complains that this workout is lackluster needs better music or more bells and whistles than I. I only need a clearly demonstrated, challenging, and results-driven workout. Jillian Michaels may not appeal to all, particularly those looking for more "fun" in a workout. I happen to like her bootcamp style. I find her straightforward and personable. Most importantly, I see results with this workout and highly recommend it.

As an intermediate-advanced exerciser, I thought this was a decent workout but not great. I don't find Jillian particularly charming or inspiring, and actually get a bit annoyed with her because she doesn't work out most of the time (instead, she crouches over one of the other women most of the time) and because she acts like her workout is something out of this world. It is a mediocre workout. She can't even keep the rhythm of the music, which is really disconcerting since it means you have to watch the TV screen to match her totally irregular rhythm or else count yourself to be sure you're doing each side evenly. Furthermore, for the surrenders, she does the same side both times so you are not balancing the two sides of the body! I also found that on several moves, she positions the body awkwardly/painfully or even in a way that is LESS effective than other positions that I've seen in other, better workout DVDs.

I am not a huge believer in Workout DVDs however since I have been following the Biggest Loser show for the first time I was tempted to try this as I like Jillian's no nonsense approach, she is tough but as she best says she gets results. This DVD is just awesome! The workout is tough but really well planned and demonstrated - you do work hard - if you do all the exercise full out as done you will get a good sweat and burn a good amount of calories. I have now also 30 day shred which shorter if you have less time -this one is also kick butt. And now I just received Banish Fat Boost Metabolism this is one is little more old style aerobics but nonetheless will kick your butt into shape.
